Brush One:
If you read my last post, you'll remember that I used to work at a certain retail store, which was located in the center of the famed mag mile. Whilst widdling away the hours there, a newly elected US Senator Obama came into the store, all by himself. He was wandering around and I asked him if I could help him with anything. He replied that he was shopping for some furniture for his new DC apartment and we walked around the store and talked about his furniture needs. Deep. It was a deep and profound experience. Ok - just kidding, but he was super personable, approachable, friendly and down to earth. He even knew one of my co-workers, who apparently in her 9-5 life was a political communications guru or worker of some sort. And he was shopping all by himself - ya' gotta love a senator that does that.
Brush Two:
During the 1992 presidential campaign, two of my high school friends and I packed up our camping gear and headed to Iowa (on a school night!) so that we could camp out at the Jumer's Castle Lodge and catch a glimpse with the Clinton/Gore as they pushed through the heartland. We were successful in our quest and having scoped out a prime spot at Jumer's, we were right in the thick of it, waving our Clinton/Gore signs and, when the candidates stumped around to us, we got to shake their hands. My friends and I were SO excited - for so many things...
- a. No more George H.W. Bush
- b. We got to vote for the first time
- c. There was change in the air
I'm still on the fence about who to vote for in this upcoming primary, but at least there is once again excitement in the air for democrats across the country. And, in contrast to the past 3 elections, there IS something for us to be excited about again!
Lastly, if you haven't registered to vote - get out and do it because TODAY is last day to register in Illinois.
